Greetings to all my scholarly companions and curious explorers of the biblical world! Today, I am thrilled to share a gem from my collection – a book that has been my constant companion through countless hours of meticulous study and illuminating discoveries.
The book I am keen to share with you is titled A Synoptic Harmony of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles With Related Passages from Psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezra edited by James D. Newsome. This invaluable work sits at the core of my expansive biblical library and has undeniably played a pivotal role in my understanding of the epoch of the Hebrew monarchy.
Why is this book so integral to my studies, you may wonder? This exemplary work contrasts two primary histories of the Hebrew monarchies as presented in Samuel/Kings and Chronicles, side by side. This method unveils the distinctive narrative style of each author and their unique worldview embedded within these sacred texts.
Newsome’s work further reveals that our Bible amalgamates different sources, each contributing to a multifaceted understanding of these ancient monarchies. The text is presented in the Revised Standard Version, ensuring accessibility to English readers of all backgrounds.
The value of this book transcends beyond just academic interest. It’s an indispensable guide for anyone seeking to embark on a rewarding journey of discovery through some of the most vital narratives of the Hebrew Bible.
I implore all students of the Bible, and indeed anyone with an interest in this captivating period of history, to equip themselves with a copy of this remarkable work. It’s not merely a recommendation; I deem it a must-have.

This will be next on my list to order! I love when I find gems like this as I search for something in particular and find out that the same verse (sometimes word for word) exists in two different books. The last one I found was Isaiah 36:12 & 2 Kings 18:27
You will not be disappointed in this one.
I purchased this book in Kislev and received it on the 13, 5783 / Dec 7, 2022 on Ross’s recommendation and have no regrets. It has been and excellent commentary to the 24 Sabbath / Saturday classes we had on The Book of Jeremiah. We had the finale class this Sabbath / Saturday Sivan 21, 5783 / June 10, 2023. It is an excellent reference tool that helps the student understand and see The Book of Jeremiah in the correct chronological order of which it is not. I had no idea of this until the 24 classes of study and how this book proved it. Another excellent book to have for your library.
